International Shito-Ryu Seminar & Dan Grading in Kerala, May 2026
On 2 and 3 May 2026, Kassis Karate Academy India welcomed Renshi George Pelekis, 7th Dan of the World Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Federation (WSKF), of Shito-Kai Greece, to Kerala for an International Shito-Ryu Seminar and Dan Grading.
Two days of Shito-Ryu training
The seminar was held at the Vyapara Bhavan Auditorium in N. Paravur and brought together the students and instructors of Kassis Karate Academy India with karateka from other schools across the country. It opened with the traditional lighting of the lamp, and over two days Renshi Pelekis covered:
- basic techniques and the fundamental principles of Shito-Ryu;
- kata and bunkai, the analysis and practical application of kata;
- competition kata;
- self-defence.
Every participant received a certificate at the close of the seminar.
The first WSKF Dan examinations in India
After the seminar, Renshi Pelekis conducted black belt and Dan promotion examinations under his WSKF examiner licence: the first time WSKF examinations have been held at Kassis Karate Academy India. Grading to the federation’s international standard links our students’ black belts to the worldwide Shito-Ryu family of the Mabuni line.
Thank you
The event was organised by President Sensei Santhosh Augustine and General Secretary Sensei Manoj Maniyan, under the guidance of International Chief Sensei Rosanna Kassis. We thank Renshi Pelekis for sharing his knowledge so generously, and every student, parent and guest who made the seminar a success. Renshi Pelekis’s own report and photo gallery are on the Shitoryu Greece website.
